Proudly sponsoring PSA Academies to help young people thrive through rugby…

The excitement of the Rugby World Cup was evident at Data-Shield HQ over the last few weeks. With some real upsets like Uruguay beating Fuji, some emotional moments for the Welsh with the departure of Warren Gatland and a couple of shocking fouls that made everybody wince. Although the final was a bit of a disappointment, it was great to see the country united. The power of sport is something we feel is truly transformative, especially for young people. It helps promote fitness, strengthen teamwork, build confidence and help with social inclusion – sport is a wonderful catalyst that can encourage kids from all backgrounds grow into strong, confident, happier adults.

Social inclusion

Here at Data-Shield we want to practice what we preach; we have committed to a two-year sponsorship deal to support PSA Academies! PSA are a specialist in high performance youth rugby academies, language educational placements and tailored group trips. PSA delivers a programme that offers a unique, transformative experience for both female and male young players between 10 to 17 years old. The programmes are truly player-centric, combining a lower player-to-coach ratio, detailed player assessments and a commitment to knowing and understanding its players in order to deliver the maximum positive impact on their development. PSA are also committed to developing a CSR strategy and approach that ensures young players get the opportunity they need to maximise their sports potential.

Mental Wellness

One of the factors that has encouraged us to work alongside PSA is the programme’s appreciation and support of mental wellness for young players. PSA have close relationships to mental health charities associated with rugby. They provide opportunities to help educate young players on simple principles, tools, good behaviours and practical steps that top professional athletes use to maintain a healthy state of mind to aid their sporting performance. These sessions cover what to do and what to avoid, how to approach areas like social media, online screen time, communicating with others, how to deal with disappointments on the field and more. The intention is that players and their parents themselves will continue to build on this through future learning in their educational, home and sports playing environments.

PSA rugby academies are held in France, Ireland and the UK. As part of our sponsorship, we will be supporting all of the academies throughout July and August 2020. PSA are constantly on the lookout for other corporate sponsors to help them grow and help more young people develop on and off the field.
